Job description:

The Emergency Medicine Clinical Staff II pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to adult and pediatric patients in a variety of acuity levels to assure safe and effective drug therapy. The Emergency Medicine Clinical Staff II pharmacist will develop and maintain a clinical practice by participating in bedside rounds and responding to trauma and medical emergencies.

The night shift EM pharmacist will work a 7 on/7 off night shift schedule, alternating with an EM pharmacist counterpart. Activities include collaborating with members of the Emergency Department, providing consultation for health care providers, educating patients/nurses/providers, optimizing medication inventory in ADC machines, and reviewing and processing medication orders. This position would be directly involved with precepting a night shift learning experience for PGY1 pharmacy residents and PGY2 pharmacy residents in critical care, as well as supporting longitudinal residency precepting commitments such as professional presentations, research projects, and medication use evaluations.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and must possess a current Virginia pharmacist license or be eligible for licensure. An ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is required and specialized PGY2 residency training in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care is preferred. Applicants must possess good leadership, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills. Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision. Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills are required.
Education: Must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).

Experience: ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency or three years of previous clinical pharmacy
experience in a relevant care setting required for all new hires or transfers.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: License to practice Pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Virginia required within 90 days of hire. During the first 90 days of employment and the licensure application process, pharmacists without a valid license to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Virginia may not perform duties restricted to a licensed pharmacist until the license is obtained.
