- Large industrial equipment manufacturer with 15 locations worldwide is hiring for a Engineering Director to oversee operations in North America

- Option to work at the HQ in Grand Rapids, MI or in Chicago, IL

Summary:
- As the Director, you are responsible for managing the North American team and all the technical works related to equipment throughout the entire life cycle of the project
- We are looking for someone to be the SME to interface with the customers to solve problems and to manage the engineering teams effectively across 3 facilities in NA
Responsibilities:
- Manage 5 Engineering Managers and 25+ Engineers across several business units and operations
- Develop the strategy to organize, improve, develop the Engineering teams
- Develop and deliver multi-year strategies to drive and monitor improvement Equipment
- Create a motivational and supportive environment in which the Engineers are challenged and supported
- Provide support to business development on developing realistic and efficient Solutions for the applicable business case
- Lead, support, mentor and improve with the Engineering Managers on the design through completion of the Equipment for projects
- Monitor the engineering process based on quality and Total Cost of Ownership
- Cooperate with operations on continuous improvement of the Equipment
Requirements
- BS/BA in Engineering is required, ideally in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other Engineering degrees
- Masters or MBA is preferred
- Six-Sigma training / Black belt certifications preferred
- 10+ years of experience in equipment manufacturing design expertise
- Evidence of a strong background in system integrators, process equipment, conveyors / Material Handling, packaging systems and related equipment preferred
- Willing to travel on a regular basis (30%) or as needed
- Must have experience managing a team of Engineering Managers overseeing Mechanical Engineers, process engineers, NPD, and design engineering
- Overall understanding of seeing products from birth to completion and understanding Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s), routings, rates, Bills of Materials, and related
- Able to communicate with customers and have strong presentation skills on solving equipment systems needed
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and ERP.
- Good planning and priority setting skills.
- Provides leadership and guidance to employees in the Department.
